Tweetdeck Wins
I’ve finally switched to TweetDeck full time as my desktop Twitter client. I really really liked Twhirl but groups in Tweetdeck finally turned me. When I first started using Tweetdeck it was just on the Mac and still ran Twhirl on the PC. The more I customized groups, the more useful Twitter became and the more I liked Tweetdeck.
I have three groups setup now.
- friends – Anyone I converse with. Some of these folks I’ve never met in person but if we @ back and forth occasionally you’re in this list. This is the group I try to keep up with most.
- other – These are people I follow but don’t know personally that I just find interesting. If I miss a twitter I don’t feel bad. Folks like scobleizer, jenxstudios, calilewis, kevinrose, rainnwilson, steverubel, etc…
- news and products – Just as it says, these are all the automated news feeds and product news such as espn, weirdnews, dallas_news, breakingnewson, flyingdog, tuaw, amazondeals, techmeme, nytimes, and tweetdeck.
I also have columns for replies, directs, and all friends. I’m never sure if I’ve put everyone into a group so I keep all friends open just in case on the far left.
As far as Twhirl goes, I still think it’s a great client. It looks better out the box and being able to customize colors, fonts, and column width makes it infinitely customizable. The look of Tweetdeck kept me away but the features finally won out.
As always, you can find me on twitter @bigjim.
